Pulse Induction Metal Detectors

Metal Detector PIRAT MTX

Metal Detector PIRAT MTX

The PIRAT MTX metal detector has ended up in need of repair. I quickly sketched out its circuit, PIRAT MTX, and took a couple of photos inside the electronic block. In case someone has to repair such a metal detector, as quite a few of them have been produced.

The Detector is powered by two 18650 batteries, which are charged through LM317 and a balancing board. This setup provides a total of 8.4 volts at full charge, which significantly affects the search depth. To mitigate this effect, some modifications have been made to the circuit, as reflected in the diagram below.

Comments on the PIRAT MTX Metal Detector Repair

I don’t claim absolute accuracy, as the device came into my hands already broken and after some use, but here are my impressions. After the repair, at full battery charge, the detector performed similarly to a regular pirate with a coil of the same diameter. It has a 50 Ohm speaker, which theoretically should produce a loud sound, but in reality, the sound is quite average, neither too loud nor too quiet.
